(研究所碩士班 )【第098學年第2學期:A班】<br>This course focuses on the literary approach to translation by examining modern translation theories and designing the possible translation strategies, to be integrated from or inspired by these theories, for certain texts. Besides the popular western translation theories, Chinese mentality-centered theory of translation will be seriously considered to enhancing the subtlety of interpreting and translating a text; therefore, a possible translation strategy is expected to be made by the student and functional in the practice of Chinese-English translation. The student has to participate in class discussion and eventually design a translation strategy for a particular text of his/her own choice. Every student carries on at least a seminar session and is required to submit a term paper to prove his comprehension of this course. Moreover, the course requires the student to keep a consciousness of English language-learning in his/her study of the literary approach to the theories, strategies, and practices of translation. The aesthetical perspectives of certain excerpts of novel, prose, drama, and poetry will also be discussed to increase any possible subtlety of the translation quality. The student therefore will repeatedly make strategies and practice them over his/her own designed work of translation. By interpreting and translating different kinds of literary texts, the student acquires his/her ability of learning, translating, and teaching the core ideas of this course.
